Rotary Club of Voi is based in Voi, Taita Taveta, Kenya, which borders the famous Tsavo East National Park, home of the lions, the Man Eaters of Tsavo and the huge Red Elephants.
During the drought, which has been getting worse, the Taita Taveta County goes through very serious human wildlife conflicts because the Elephants tend to get into the community in search of food and water.
RC Voi have been in existence since 2012 and have undertaken lots of community water projects creating long term sustainable solutions for areas where piped water still hasn't reached by partnering with other international rotary clubs. They have succeeded in the areas worst hit.
The Rotary Club of Voi also have taken up lots of tree planting projects by forming interactive clubs in local schools in Taita Taveta County, engaging them into tree planting and looking after them until they are healthy to continue growing on their own. The Rotary Club of Voi conducts classes with these young pupils on living in harmony with nature and nurturing them into good citizens and leaders and inspirers. Mostly they concentrate on fruit trees for the school children since it ensures future food security plus.
We engage youth from local football clubs in planting indigenous acacia trees along the Voi River since Voi, Taita Taveta have the most beautiful acacia trees ever but because of charcoal burning and population increase, the indigenous trees have really reduced, hence tour plan is to make Taita Taveta all green again.
